The sites under study are:

1.       Tula area, Russia with coal waste dumps.

2.       Orenburg area, Urals, Russia with mixed sulfide waste dumps and tailing dams.

3.       Lugansk, Ukraine with coal waste dumps.

4.       Curilo, Bulgaria with mixed sulfide and radioactive waste dumps.

All sites contain huge volumes of coal or sulphide wastes, and especially for Curilo radioactive as well, which constitute a serious environmental hazard.
